How To Make FireLighters From Used Tea Bags

My son Michael and I show you how to make firelighters from used tea bags in this video. It’s a great way to recycle your tea bags and a huge cost saver if you make fires regularly. We clearly drink way too much tea 🙂 .

Instructions

First you must collect and dry out your used tea bags in the sun and store in an old orange or onion bag. Next, find and fill an old jar with these bags, press them down. We used our old coffee jar. We use Paraffin for the fuel. Slowly pour the Paraffin into the bottle over the tea bags. Fill it until the bottle is a third of the way full with Paraffin.

Next put the lid back on nice and tight and then turn the jar upside down and back again. Do this a few times until the tea bags at the top have absorbed some of the paraffin. If you do this quickly, but repeat it, there is less likelihood of spilling paraffin, than if you turn it upside down for a while. It depends on the seal of your glass bottle. Don’t shake it though. It is now ready to be used. If you use these after a while, just quickly flip it upside down with the lid on tightly to move the liquid over the bags at the top again before lighting your fire.

Make sure to store the bottle in a safe place, away from any children’s reach, and away from heat or flames. Don’t store near the fireplace.

There is normally Paraffin left once you’ve used the tea bags, so just replace them in the same bottle with more, until there is no more Paraffin liquid left. Top up if needed.

*** Paraffin is a hazardous liquid to work with. Make sure you apply all necessary precautions. Keep it out of reach of young kids. It is toxic and highly flammable. ***
