Plettenberg Bay is a popular holiday destination that offers outdoor activities and relaxation. Visitors can explore the town’s beaches and lagoon, hike through the Robberg Nature Reserve, play golf, mountain bike or go whale watching during the whale season. The Garden Route is spoilt with fantastic weather for outdoor activities, even through the mild winter season.

One of the main attractions in Plettenberg Bay is its beautiful beaches, which are some of the best on the Garden Route and South Africa. Whether you’re looking to relax and soak up the sun or try your hand at surfing, there is a beach in Plett that is perfect for you. The town’s two main beaches, Lookout Beach and Central Beach, are both popular with visitors and locals alike and offer excellent swimming conditions, as well as opportunities for surfing, stand-up paddle-boarding, fishing, snorkelling and kayaking. Robberg Beach is a lovely 5km beach great for long early morning walks and swimming in the demarcated areas. Robberg has been known to have strong rip currents and can have a large swell, so be careful to follow the safety instructions of the lifeguards or beach management. Keurbooms Beach is another popular walking beach, but be careful swimming here as it has a strong current and swimming is not recommended.

A popular attraction in Plettenberg Bay is the Robberg Nature Reserve, which offers stunning coastal hikes and the chance to spot dolphins, seals, sharks, and whales. The reserve is home to several hiking trails, ranging from easy to challenging, and offers breathtaking coastline and ocean views. Hiking Robberg is on our list of top experiences in the Garden Route. Early morning, or late afternoon – the sunsets and sunrises are spectacular here. Unrestricted views of the Bay and the warm Indian Ocean from high on the cliff tops is a breathtaking experience. Give yourself some extra time to sit and absorb the natural beauty of this place.

For a more relaxed experience, Plettenberg Bay is home to several other beautiful nature reserves, including the Keurbooms River Nature Reserve and the Garden of Eden. Both reserves offer excellent opportunities for bird watching, picnicking, and exploring the region’s diverse flora and fauna.

In addition to its natural attractions, Plettenberg Bay is also home to several excellent restaurants, cafes, and shops, making it a great place to spend some time relaxing or enjoying retail therapy. Whether you’re looking to sample some of the region’s fresh seafood, browse local crafts and artwork, or simply relax and enjoy the town’s laid-back vibe, Plettenberg Bay has something for everyone.
